UK Batteries to bring back three of the best!

Leading battery distributor secures the rights to the Oldham, Tungstone and Crompton brands.

Three of the UK’s most iconic battery names are set to make a dramatic return to the aftermarket after UK Batteries revealed it has acquired the Oldham, Tungstone and Crompton brands.

Although the origins of the brands stretch as far back as the 1920s, it was during the 1970s when they achieved heavyweight status. Under the representation of the British Battery Manufacturers Society (BBMS), the Oldham, Tungstone and Crompton brands were three of the five names that commanded around an 85% share of the UK battery market.

UK Batteries strongly believes that the enthusiasm and passion for the brands still remains in today’s aftermarket so the market-leading distributor has taken the decision to bring all three back to life, using its expert product management and logistics skills. The brand licenses have all been acquired from Enersys.

All three brands will be available from August and will compliment UK Batteries’ existing PLATINUM and Energizer product ranges that are firm favourites with motor factors and retailers all over the UK.

Neil Warren, UK Batteries marketing and communications director, said: “These three brands really stood for something in their day and we know they still have a commanding role to play in the modern aftermarket and our battery programme.

“This isn’t just a light-hearted exercise in nostalgia. We have got our sights firmly set on bringing the Oldham, Tungstone and Crompton brands back to life with battery products that are befitting of the prestigious names and our long term right to the licenses means we will have valuable continuity to take the legacy on even further.”
